How to use NameDrop in iOS 17
First you need to download iOS 17 when it’s released by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
Bluetooth and your iPhone’s Wi-Fi feature will also need to be switched on. You can do both of these from the Control Center.

Switching On AirDrop
Before using NameDrop in iOS 17, you have to turn on AirDrop for everyone. You can do this by following these steps:
- Open the Settings app and select the General tab.
- Click on AirDrop.
- Change your settings to Everyone for 10 Minutes.
Sharing Your Contact Details
After turning on AirDrop on your iPhone, and ensuring that the other user has done likewise, you can share your contact details by doing the following.
- Move your iPhone right next to the other person’s device.
- Wait for your contact cards to appear on each other’s iPhone.
- Click on the option to share your contact details.
In addition to using your iPhone, you can share contact details with Apple Watch users as well. The process works exactly the same.
Can I use NameDrop on my iPhone?
You can use the NameDrop feature on an iPhone XR or newer models running iOS 17 Beta 2.
Why can’t I use NameDrop on my iPhone?
The NameDrop feature is available on iOS 17 Beta 2 only. If you’re using an iPhone XR or later model with iOS 17 Developer 2 and still can’t use NameDrop, try the following:
1. Make sure the other person has also installed iOS 17 Developer Beta 2.
2. Verify if you’ve enabled AirDrop for Everyone on both devices.
3. Double-check if both iPhones are in close proximity.
